Don't forget the date for the 2010 Chardstock Street Fayre is Saturday
September 4th
Chardstock Street Fayre Saturday September 5th 2009
This year we were blessed with reasonably good weather for the day, with
just a light sprinkling of the wet stuff.
The programme of events kicked off with the official opening ceremony at
11am and continued throughout the day, with lots of visitors returning
back to the village in the evening for the fantastic performance by
Captain Chainsaw with his Fire Show, although we will need to replace
some of the singed bunting next year! and the audition and semi final
performances by Britains Got Talent, The Barrow Boys. How are we going
to top that next year?
Street Fayres main aim since the first fayre in 1999 has been to create
‘community spirit’, raise monies for local good causes and charities and
to ensure that everyone involved thoroughly enjoys the day. That was
certainly the case this year with our main crowd pulling attraction of
the Hog Roast catching on fire which certainly raised a few singed
eyebrows. Luckily Chard Fire Brigade were on hand to extinguish the
rather well done pig!
There was even more local live music this year with performances from
Stevie Brown, Transition, Ray Stevens, and our own home grown talent The
Standing Stones and Ady Goff, and a stunning acoustic performance by
Cryostorm who are off to the O2 Arena in London for the next stage of a
nationwide competition.
During the day the visitors were also entertained by the famous
Chardstock Morris Dancers & Prancers, Birds of Prey, Alpacas, the Dog
Show, Classic Cars, Competition Cars, Vintage Tractors and Engines, a
Craft Fayre in the new School, Balloon Race, Belly Dancers, Uncle Rays
Magic Show, Bouncy Castle, Chardstock Amateur Dramatic Society who
performed the opening ceremony as ‘Thriller’, a visit by a Ferrari to
pick up our competition winner Dorothy Williamson (our thanks to Nick
Cleal at Millfield Motors for donating his time and car!), a bridal
exhibition and floral display and guided tours around Chardstock St
Andrews Church and of course a collection of stalls throughout the main
street of the village.
Thanks to Chard U15’s/U16’s Rugby squad the car parking and Bob & Phils
tractor park & ride all went smoothly with a little less mud to deal
with than last year!
Thanks to the generous support shown, we have been able to donate £3,000
to our chosen local good causes and beneficiaries at our presentation
evening on 18th October 2009.
So thanks to all our programme advertisers, donators of draw prizes and
all those who donated their time. We look forward to seeing you all at
next years Street Fayre on the first Saturday in September.
This website will
be updated throughout the year, so keep checking for details of the 2010
Street Fayre.
